Mission Statement

The mission of the Armada Township Fire Department is to protect lives and property in the community and ascribe to the highest ethical standards in the profession of Firefighting and Emergency Services. We hold the organizational values of Armada Township as the base upon which we build these principles. In that endeavor, we recognize that the citizens hold us to a higher ethical and moral standard because they entrust us with their lives, the lives of their loved ones, their property, and their valuables. Therefore, each member of the Armada Township Fire Department shall, with due deliberation, live according to ethical principles consistent with professional conduct and pledge to follow our ethical principles.

Our Guiding Ethical Principles

  • We recognize that our families and our government are the reason for our presence.
  • We will continually work to deserve the public confidence and trust of the community through our attitude, conduct, and accomplishments.
  • The public is entitled to our best efforts, as such we will provide professional and courteous service at all times.
  • The perceptions of a Firefighter will not be compromised. Honor, loyalty, courage, trust, charity, gallantry, and protection will be maintained at all times.
  • We will continually seek improvement in effectiveness, efficiency, and economy.
  • Accountability and team work are indispensable.
  • Self-Improvement as a Firefighter is our obligation for the duration of our tenures in the Fire Service.
  • We recognize the badge of our department as a symbol of public faith based on a sacred trust that we are privileged to wear and possess so long as we are true to the mission of Fire Service and the values of the Armada Township Fire Department.

The Armada Township Fire Department (ATFD) was established in 1853 and staffed entirely with volunteers. The ATFD was one of the first departments to provide basic life support ambulance services in Northern Macomb County. In 2004, the first full-time fire chief was hired. Through progressive planning and budgeting, the ATFD hired three full-time firefighter paramedics in August 2009 and two months later upgraded from Basic Life Support transporting to Advanced Life Support transporting services.

Today, your fire department provides fire, rescue, and Advanced Life Support ambulance services out of one centrally located station staffed 24/7. Our staff consists of a full-time fire chief, 9 full-time firefighter/paramedics, and 25 paid-on-call firefighters. Each shift is compromised of 1 Lieutenant/paramedic, 2 full-time firefighter/paramedics, and 1 part-time position filled by our paid-on-call personnel.  Our budget is derived from ambulance transport revenue, a 1.5 mills special assessment rate for fire protection and a 1.5 mills millage rate fore Advanced Life Support.
